Festivals & Events Bootcamp!

March 28 & 29, 2023

During 2022, many of our favourite festivals and events returned after being sidelined, postponed or adjusted in the previous two years.  As recovery continues, GMIST is excited to bring back an in-person Festivals & Events Bootcamp for event and festival professionals who would like to collaborate with their colleagues from across the region and learn in a peer-to-peer environment.

The Program

Join us for a two day in-person Festivals & Events Bootcamp in beautiful Moncton, New Brunswick. Whether you are the creator, manager or developer (or all three!) of a festival or event, this course promises to deliver results.  Together, we will learn how to take our festivals and events to the next level.

This hands-on session will cover various topics, including festival & event development, fundraising & sponsorship, volunteer support & engagement and marketing & communications.  Over the two days, the resources, information and practical examples shared will help you create an 8-step festival plan that you can take away and implement into your festival or event. Seasoned facilitator Louise Jackson of Aim High Go Higher will lead you through these steps with passion and expertise that will leave you wanting more!

Collaboration is the key to success! You will build long-lasting relationships with the other attendees, as there will be plenty of opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking.  As a group, we will attend a spectacular dining experience where you meet local chefs and enjoy a culinary adventure.

Following our two days together, there will be a follow-up meeting via Zoom to bring us back together to check in, discuss your learnings, and share your experiences.

The Facilitator

The Festivals & Events Bootcamp will be facilitated by Louise Jackson, an event professional with vast experience ranging from hosting large scale sporting events to a festival with over 250,000 guests. She is a graduate of Tourism Management from Georgian College. Louise understands what people need and goes above and beyond to enhance the guest and sponsor experience. Louise is a strategic thinker and prides herself on integrity and innovation. Partnerships and relationship building is the key to Louise’s success.  Her company is Aim High Go Higher and she lives by three principles: integrity, indomitable spirit and culture.

Who is this program for?

This workshop is ideal for those involved in Festivals and Events, including Managers, Coordinators and others who want to learn more about festival & event development, fundraising & sponsorship, volunteer support/engagement and marketing & communications.  The content of the workshop is suited to both seasoned and new event professionals.  Participants should be open to an interactive approach and peer-to-peer learning.

Dates & Location

The Festivals & Events Bootcamp will be a two day workshop on Tuesday, March 28 and Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Moncton, NB.

Tuesday, March 28: 9:30 am – 4:30 pm (Registration at 9:30 am / Workshop start 10:00 am) + Evening supper experience (Details TBA)

Wednesday, March 29: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

A block of rooms has been set aside for participants who wish to stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Moncton ($171/night single occupancy).  You may contact the hotel directly and note that you are booking under the GMIST room block.  Note that there is no additional charge for parking at the venue.

Cost

GMIST will apply a full scholarship of $350 to cover the cost of tuition for all accepted participants.  GMIST will cover the cost of attendance as well as breaks, lunches and day one supper experience.

Note that travel costs, including transportation to/from the venue and accommodations will be the responsibility of participants and will not be covered by GMIST.

Application

The deadline to apply for this program is Friday, March 10, 2023.   We will let everyone know the status of their application by Wednesday, March 14, 2023 at the latest.
